About Petworth
Petworth is the quintessential English market town with historic charm nestled in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Petworth’s characterful houses, independent shops and historical buildings make this market town a must-visit destination in the south of England. As the cobbled streets of Petworth wind to an end you will find yourselves in the heart of the South Downs National Park, an area designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty since 1966.
Within the town itself you will find boutique shops, antique dealers, fine dining and artisan food shops. Upon your visit to Newlands House, we encourage you to take some time to explore the town and nearby sights.
Petworth House
After exploring a modern and contemporary art exhibition at Newlands House, why not contrast your visit with a tour of the magnificent Petworth House and its Capability Brown park. Petworth House presents the finest art collection in the care of the National Trust, including landscapes and seascapes by Turner and by Constable, and portraits by Van Dyck and by Holbein. For groups, we can arrange visits by appointment.
