Philip Colbert is a British artist, born in Scotland and based in London. Often referred to as ‘The Godson of Andy Warhol,’ Colbert has developed a highly distinctive visual language that blends contemporary art theory with the iconography of Old Master paintings and everyday pop culture. His bold and surreal works have earned him a global cult following and acclaim from leading art-world figures including Charles Saatchi and Simon de Pury.
Best known for his cartoon lobster alter ego, Colbert works across a range of media including painting, sculpture, large-scale installations, and digital platforms such as NFTs. Highlights of his practice include the creation of Lobsteropolis, a virtual reality art world, and his giant inflatable lobster sculpture, presented at the 59th Venice Biennale in 2022, one of these Lobster Coming Out of a Can Soup is on display at Newlands House Gallery garden.
His vibrant, tactile lobster sculptures have become signature pieces, combining playfulness with critical reflection on consumerism and visual culture.
Colbert’s work is instantly recognisable and unapologetically bold, offering a fresh, dynamic perspective on pop art. With international exhibitions and a growing number of works in major private collections, his practice continues to push the boundaries of contemporary art while captivating audiences worldwide.
