Curator’s Tour and Cinema Evening
Join Newlands House Gallery Director Loucia Manopoulou, curator of Jane Bown: Play Shadow, for the very first Art & Cinema event, an evening where creativity, storytelling, and great food come together.
Enjoy a guided tour of the exhibition, then settle in for a special screening of Looking for Light: Jane Bown. To make the experience even more unforgettable, indulge in “cinema-style” treats prepared by the fabulous team at The Hungry Guest.
A perfect blend of art, film, and flavour not to be missed!
Set within the beautifully Grade II-listed townhouse, this exclusive event offers a rare opportunity to experience Bown’s iconic portraits of cultural figures and explore the exhibition before concluding with the projection of Looking for Light and delicious “cinema-like” food prepared by the wonderful The Hungry Guest café. This provides a perfect cultural kick for 2026 to reflect, discuss, and enjoy Petworth’s leading cultural hub.

Looking for Light: Jane Bown, directed by Luke Dodd and Michael Whyte, offers an intimate glimpse into Bown’s life and process. Through her own words and images, the film reveals an artist who found extraordinary light in ordinary life, whose quiet confidence shaped the visual memory of a century.
